General reviews summary:

  • Positive:
    • It’s exactly what you would expect of 500 to 1000-year-old mounds.
    • Entry is cheap during remodeling.
  • Negative:
    • It’s exactly what you would expect of 500 to 1000-year-old mounds.
    • The trails around the mounds are poorly done; they are simply mowed grass.
    • Some signs are not properly maintained.
    • Sometimes the path is flooded.
    • The museum portion is closed (expected back in October 2024)
  • General perception: Good. Generally well reviewed, but the closed interpretive center is a big complaint.

Our review:

We saw this site when the interpretive center was open. It was interesting, but kind of old and worn. It is a good thing that it is being remodeled. They need to redo the outdoor portions too, but maybe they will. An article on the local news (44 News) reports that the focus of the interpretive center is going to change from archaeology to Native American life, so we cannot say much about the new exhibits. Regardless, there is little to see here until the remodel is done, so we would recommend waiting to visit this site for now.

Verdict:

Wait to visit until the remodel is completed.
